JJ Abrams and Gabe Newell gave the DICE 2013 keynote address today. They talk about a lot of things but what people care most about is that they announced, together, there are Half-Life and Portal movies in development.
Of all the movies based on games, these ones have the best chance at being great. Mostly because Valve is a huge entity and could probably fund the movies themselves depending on the scale of them. With Abrams behind them I have a bit more faith. I don't think he's amazing but I also don't think he is a slave for the Hollywood dollar.
